Sleep and the Glymphatic System

A good night’s sleep does more than just allow us to feel refreshed and renewed in the morning. It actually engages a unique system in the brain that’s a combination of glial cells and the lymphatic system, that cleans up the protein debris of alpha-synuclein and beta-amyloid from the day. If this debris isn’t cleared out it can form amyloid plaque, a known contributing factor to the evolution of Alzheimer’s disease.
